A MAESTRO TO BE VINDICATED! Miquel Rodrigo is undoubtedly a master to be vindicated. In this concert hall, he has shown us signs of a musical talent that understands little of stylistic limitations and more of deep work together with a musical intuition that is rarely seen. He recently accompanied the Spanish pop group 'Los Secretos' on their symphonic tour to resounding success. Just a few days later, he moved on to performing Stravinsky's music, which was completely different. He also performed the Russian's music in a mythical version of The Rite of Spring a few years ago with this same orchestra and in this same cycle. Bravo to maestro Miguel Rodrigo! We are saying this because others have been too quiet about it.

The twentieth edition of this cycle began with two of Stravinsky's creations for winds, expertly conducted by Miquel Rodrigo. One such example was the 'Symphonies for wind instruments' (a tribute to Debussy), which, with its nakedness, broken rhythm, cutting harmonies and piercing timbres, was moulded by Rodrigo with precise gesture, and the interpreters completed their difficult work with good results.

During the final concert of the Krebbers Competition in Maastricht, I was very impressed by the conductor Miquel Rodrigo. The Brahms violin concerto and Tschaikowsky's fourth symphony were both performed to a high standard. Maestro Miguel Rodrigo recently conducted the Valencia Symphony Orchestra in a programme that included works by Jacques Ibert, Manuel de Falla and Beethoven. The concert was a resounding success, and the members of the orchestra were impressed by the maestro Rodrigo. I am planning to extend an invitation to him to attend another concert with the Valencia Symphony Orchestra.

This concentration continued during the Brahms violin concerto where Rodrigo chose the appropriate tempi. ‘...in Tchaikovsky's fourth symphony Rodrigo proved himself again, as in the overture, he conducted without a score, achieving direct contact with the orchestra...’
